SUP ADVENTURES! Our TOP 5 places to Paddleboard in the UK

Wassss’SUP fellow SUP lovers!!

Summer is around the corner, so here’s some inspiration on where to paddleboard in the UK this year.

As you know, Stand Up Paddle-boarding (“SUP’ing”) is a watersport that’s growing fast and furiously all around the world, especially here in the UK. Perfect for an adventure weekend away, it’s easy to learn, affordable, and you don’t have to travel to the coast to try it. In fact, thanks to the UK’s vast number of lakes, rivers and canals there’s always a SUP adventure near you!

Euphoric Threads designer Laura shares with you her TOP 5 Euphoric Stand-Up Paddleboarding destinations in the UK to inspire you to explore and venture out with your Euphoric Threads this Autumn :

1. SCOTLAND

Bonnie Scotland, where to begin! I highly recommend road-tripping up to the North West highlands and exploring many of the stunning lochs.

Last Summer I took my C15 Romahome on the road and travelled all the way up from Dorset, passing the Lake District, then on to Glasgow. My first stop was Loch Lomond, a wonderful Lake about a 20 minutes drive from the city.

One of the top highlights of the whole trip was SUP’ing at Loch Appin, a beautiful and unexpected spot on route to Glen Nevis (pictured above).

The views of the mountains in the distant are just incredible, and we found a quiet little launching spot away from the main road.

It was pretty cold, but SO refreshing when we went back in September. But whatever the season, it’ll always be top of my list. Definitely pack for all weathers, and I’d recommend this not just for this loch – but when travelling anywhere in Scotland.

2. LAKE DISTRICT

The Lake District is absolutely stunning and provides fantastic opportunities to take to the water by paddleboard…

On route to Scotland I detoured into the Lake District to make a stop and paddleboard. ( You can read more about my UK road trip here. )

My favourite spot was Ullswater. The lake here is watched over by the incredible Helvellyn Mountain, which stands at 635 metres tall and is breathtaking in the afternoon sun.

The best thing about Ullswater is that you don’t need to come prepared with a board. There’s plenty of services in the area that offer board rentals, beginner classes, and even tours around the lake – such as Ullswater Paddleboarding.

Paddling the length of the lake usually takes three hours, one way. You’ll start from Streamer Pier cark park in Glenridding Village and finish at Pooley Bridge at the north of the water.

3. DORSET!

Ok, Ok, I know I am bias but I guarantee if you haven’t already visited our Dorset beaches, you will LOVE it here in the South.

Euphoric Threads headquarters and OG studio is based in the South West of Dorset along the Jurassic coastline. My local beach to paddleboard is West Bay beach or Burton Bradstock when the waves and winds aren’t too hectic:

Driving further east takes you to Weymouth and the infamous Portland harbour where I grew up windsurfing in this harbour with my father.  Portland harbour is one of the largest man-made harbours in the world and home of the Olympic sailing!

Drive towards East Dorset and you will find these hidden gems (pictured above) – Head to Old Harry’s Rock in Swanage and if you carry along the South West Coast Path a few kilometres west of Swanage you will come across the hidden spot called Dancing Ledge.

Dancing Ledge (pictured left) is part of the Jurassic Coast near Langton Matravers in the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, accessible by a coastal path and little rock scrambling!

TIP: Paddleboard West from Old Harry’s Rock at sunrise to get first access to these gorgeous SUP spots!

Another beautiful harbour that is IDEAL for paddleboarding is of course Poole. Head to Sandbanks beach and park for free right in front of the harbour and launch!

4. CORNWALL! – Porthcurno Beach.

Cornwall has an abundance of beaches and coves to explore by paddleboard, but one of our favourite beaches is the magnificent Porthcurno:

Porthcurno Beach boasts pristine turquoise waters, golden sand beaches and is tucked away amidst some pretty gnarly cliffs. It’s absolutely stunning, with a white sandy beach and clear turquoise water – the kind of beauty you’d expect to find in Croatia, Barcelona or the Caribbean. In this SUP spot, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were abroad on a tropical holiday!

Launch your board from the beach at low tide and head left towards Logan Rock. Here, you’ll find a dramatic section of coast with jagged rock formations, and secret coves and sandy islands that can only be reached by paddle or boat.

These secluded coves make stunning spots in which to pitch up for the day and enjoy a little solitude. It’ll just be you and maybe a few other seasoned paddleboarders.

5. HASTINGS BEACH

Hastings is a sand & shingle beach located near Hastings in East Sussex. Many of our wonderful customers have recommended this gorgeous spot, in particular paddleboarding under Hastings pier!

Rock-a-nore Beach in Hastings Old Town is one of my favourite spots to paddle. The beach is very accessible trough the car park, so makes it very easy to pump and set the board up. I love paddling around the cliffs and occasionally spot some seal! Another great feature of this spot is the stunning sunsets!

I hope you have some inspiration for your next paddleboarding adventures and euphoric escapades!!

Have an amazing SUP session, see you in the water soon!
