It’s Fashion Revolution Week: Learn about Euphoric Threads!
It’s a Fashion Revolution baby and we are here for it! 🎉
Euphoric Threads took part in with #FashionRevolutionWeek this April to show where your Euphoric Threads are made, where the fabric comes from .. and what’s in it! Read on or follow the links to read further 🙂
What is Fashion Revolution Week?
Fashion Revolution Week every April, is the time when we all come together as a global community to create a better fashion industry. It is centred around the anniversary of the Rana Plaza fashion factory collapse in India, which killed more than 1,138 workers in April 2013.
Fashion Revolution has since become the world’s largest fashion activism movement, mobilising citizens, industry and policymakers through their research, education and advocacy work.
Fash Rev is a global movement of people who make the fashion industry work; the people who wear clothes, and the people who make them.
We are designers, academics, writers, business leaders, policymakers, brands, retailers, marketers, producers, makers, workers and fashion lovers. We are the industry and we are the public. We are world citizens. We are Fashion Revolution.
#WhoMadeMyFabric ?
All our unique Euphoric prints are designed in-house by our designer Laura and printed in the UK with fabric supplier Friedmans or Funki Fabrics using 100% RECYCLED ECO Life Lycra ✌🏼 and most recently a stretchier Lycra made from 100% RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES. (more on this below)
In Australia we use textile suppliers Eclipse for an amazing range of block colour Eco Swimwear Fabric and the legends Digital Fabrics to print our designs! 🇦🇺✌🏼♻️🇬🇧
In older and previous mini collections we have used locally sourced lycra from Fabricland and Timeless Fabrics in Dorset.
#WhatsInMyClothes ?
We LOVE being part of the Slow Fashion movement, and our proud to create all our garments using 100% RECYCLED ECO Life Lycra. ✌🏼
This special fabric is made from recycled and regenerated plastic waste such as fishing nets found in our oceans 💙
Most recently we have used a NEW Techno stretchier recycled fabric from Carvico for our Black Disco Melon collections – in particular the leggings.
From the WAVES to the Raves… quite literally…. Your Euphoric Threads are made from RECYCLED ghost fishing nets and plastics rescued from our beaches and ocean! 💚
We use high end recycled fabrics made of ECONYL® yarn by @Aquafil.
Econyl brand work with volunteer divers from Ghost Diving Org that work for Healthy Seas to collect fishing nets from the seabed and they transform it – together with other nylon waste – into ECONYL® a 100% regenerated nylon for your EUPHORIC THREADS. 💕🏄🏻♀️
( To get an idea of how harmful and polluting these fishing nets are – Please GO WATCH Seaspiracy on Netflix 🎣 )
We ALSO use a New Techno fabric from Carvico for your Black Disco Melons Leggings! It’s made from 100% RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES. ♻️
Some Science:
The majority of activewear leggings on the market are made from polyethylene (PET) which is actually a type of polyester also used to make plastic bottles.
The production of conventional polyester involves huge quantities of water, chemicals and use of fossil fuels, mainly petroleum (yuk!) The raw materials can be toxic, pollute water and air and cause several health issues.
By using only recycled polyester to make our surf leggings, we bypass this whole process.
Not only does recycling prevent millions of plastic bottles from our ocean and landfill, thus less soil contamination & water pollution, but it also overcomes many disadvantages of conventional polyester.
In fact, by using the recycled method, it takes 70% less energy. Isn’t that a huge difference?!
FUN FACTS …
💚 RECYCLED PET requires 86% less water than regular polyester
💚 RECYCLED PET consumes 70% less energy than regular polyester
💚 The CO2 emissions of RECYCLED PET are 75% lower
💚 1 pair of our Disco Melons Pocket Pants can keep 32 water bottles out of our environment !! 🙌🏼
Using this super stretchy new techno Lycra helps us to not only keep plastic out of the landfills and oceans, but also to save our natural resources, hallelujahhhhh🌏✌🏼💕
#WhoMadeMyClothes ?
For those of you who don’t know – my name is Laura (@lauragriff_) and I’m the one and only person behind Euphoric Threads.
✂️ I design and make all the flamboyant prints; then I Cut, Make and Sew all your Euphoric Threads by myself in our sunny Dorset studio or previously Down Under in Australia ( ..Season/pandemic dependent – Cheers rona! )
It’s only me here that makes your garms, temporarily sewing orders from a static sunny caravan studio located on the tropical Dorset coastline where I grew up ( .. and sometimes on-the-go from Roamie – my C15 Romahome 🚐✌🏼) See my blog post here on travelling and sewing my way around Portugal.
From surfing waves to dancing at raves, I want to bring euphoric colour and tropical prints into your life! 🌈
I want to empower women in the water with happy colourful patterns and multi-functional ECO Activewear that doesn’t cost the planet and our Mother Earth.
